Best Western Plus Hôtel Carlton

There is no doubt that this hotel has a great location: a few meters from the train/bus station and only a few blocks from Old Annecy. The location is hard to beat! This is a 4-star category, but it is rather hard to see why: the room was okay but nothing extraordinary, the breakfast was okay but the bacon was too oily and nothing extraordinary, the service was okay but again, nothing extraordinary and we did not receive any special attention that would justify a 4-star rating. In fact, we received better on all these at 3-star hotels. Overall, while the location is great, this hotel is overrated and too expensive for what it is.

Stayed in #704 from Sept 5 - 8,2023. Bath had tub, about 25” side, grab bar on the back wall, no anti-slip features. I fell in the bath after taking a shower, and trying to climb out of the tub. Hit my elbow hard, but it could have been much worse, very dangerous. The A/C in the room controlled digitally, no instructions, could not get it to blow cold air. I went to the front desk to ask for help. The staff member followed me to the room, and also could not figure out the controls. She finally got it blowing (NOT COLD AIR) and told me it was working. (NOT WORKING) and that house keeping would tell me the next day how to operate it. Housekeeping did not tell me anything, did not change the settings. Poor service

We had a great stay. The BW Carlton is a very short walk across a park from the Gare d Annecy (train station) and just around the corner from the beautiful Old Town area. Location was great.The hotel has the charm of it being in the same family for generations as well as its fresh new beautiful renovations. Our room had a great sitting area with a nice view of the park and in all very comfortable and nice room. The only "complaint", which is common with many European hotels, is that ac is seasonal. Without it, the room was a little stuffy for our preference. (I only mention it as it seems to be a common question, but understand it is not an easy fix as it is more an industry thing, not the hotel). Staff did loan us a nice fan. Being cool outside, we were able to leave a window cracked most of the time and street noise was fairly quiet at night. One exception was, only one evening, there was a group going through town honking horns in celebration for several hours. We had a chance to see how amazing the soundproof windows were. When closed, not hint of sound of a horn...wow. We opened and closed the windows several times as we could not believe the silence. We were assured that breakfast was a selection of high quality, local products and considering the quality of everything else, we do believe that to be true. Though we were tempted, we did not try. (We do not eat much in the morning and could not justify the expense). Overall, highly recommended the Carlton as a solid 4 star hotel of good quality.

We stayed three nights in this lovely hotel. My words won’t really describe how competent the staff were especially Camille who was always very helpful, went over and beyond and definitely an employee who is enhancing the reputation of the hotel. The hotel is in a great location as it’s right next to the train station and bus station. Great location for dinning in lovely cozy Restraunt all around, the shops were literally on our door step and lake Annecy about a 10 min walk from the hotel. All in all very impressive hotel with a lot to do around it. Lastly thank you very much for making it a joyful stay!
